Dr Naomi Wilson

BSc (Hons) Psychology (Southampton), DClinPsy (Sheffield)
Clinical Tutor

Clinical work

I currently work at the Institute of Psychotrauma; a Tertiary Trauma service in East London NHS Trust for adults who have experienced trauma and have a diagnosis of PTSD. I also have an interest in complex trauma: a significant proportion of the work we carry out is with people seeking asylum or who are refugees, a third of our clients we see with interpreters and many present with dissociative disorders. I also supervise IAPT High Intensity Therapists, Newham for their work with clients with PTSD.

Therapeutically I have completed a training in Experiential Dynamic Therapy (see http://www.iedta.net/ and www.ukedt.co.uk)

Previous roles

I have previously worked in Primary Care Mental Health and Physical Health services in Nottinghamshire and was a Clinical Tutor on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Sheffield. Prior to completing my clinical training I worked in a commercial and training role for a distributor of video analysis software for behavioural research and prior to that for Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals UK.

Qualitative research, including narrative methodology

Ethical Practice and the limits of professional ethical frameworks, critical perspectives of professional practice

Links with other research groups

The Institute of Psychotrauma, where I am based clinically, is formally affiliated to Queen Mary, University of London and all clinicians in the service are active researchers in the field of trauma. We have also recently collaborated with the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, carrying out a feasibility study of music therapy for clients with PTSD, and have international development links with Uganda and Bangladesh.
